MLB The Show 25 showcases what can be created when a diverse group of artists located thousands of miles apart, come together to combine their skills and ideas.
The Challenge
Convince an entire studio that art can change the way users see and experience our game while working within tech capabilities, tight deadlines and storage limits.
The Plan
We wanted to leverage all of our unique skills to develop a style guide and a UI design system. Having these two guides in place would mean that our production cycle could be done faster than ever. No more having to think about every screen or feature like a completely new creative problem. Instead, both the style guide and the design system would have enough to pull from that features could be built in a fraction of the time.
Style Guide
Houses guidelines for the games logo, 2D and 3D art treatments, environments and backgrounds, color palettes, typography, and iconography style. This is made to create the game's theme and atmosphere.
Design System
A collection of reusable components and templates that streamline the design and development of user interfaces. This system maintains consistency, accessibility and efficiency across the game.
The Team
The art team consists of two 3D/Motion artists, one Graphic Designer/UI Artist, and Design System Manager. My role on the team is to be a part of creating the assets for both the style guide and the component library, while also approving what art goes into the official system. I work as a Co-Art Director with one of our 3D/Motion artists to set the tone of the game. Together, we have to take all that our team has created and present it to leadership as well as pitch strategy concepts to help support our goals as an art team.
The Design
Below is a series of key art assets and iconography taken from our style guide.

The Components
All of the elements that inform a user and allow them to interact with the game exist here. We designed these assets to be simple in an effort to keep legibility high and to not compete with the artwork from the style guide.
Screen Examples
All of the style guide artwork and design system components shown above come together to create our screens.
